Case Study #2

Using psychometric profiling to knit together a new team and accelerate delivery

Our client is a rapidly growing software developer supplying procurement solutions to major institutions all over the UK. Its exceptionally rapid growth meant that it doubled in size in just twelve months. It needed to ensure that all its staff were connected and in the best position to leverage each other’s skills in delivering the sizeable contracts that it was winning.

Challenges
  • A diverse and multi-talented team who were unused to working together

  • Tight deadlines required, team work and collaboration to deliver on time

  • Limited time to on-board new starters and get them productive

Business Impact
  • Senior staff were overloaded and handling too many projects
  • New staff were becoming frustrated at their inability to get fully involved in development tasks

  • Clients were expressing concern at the time taken to deliver some projects

  • More complex and interesting contracts were being missed through a lack of time to prepare adequately

The session was incredibly helpful in bringing the team together and quite frankly in some cases explicitly talking about things we knew about each other but were never said out loud before. The Lumina Spark profile really allows individuals to reflect upon themselves, to share things they would otherwise perhaps never do and to encourage them to work on their development areas. I am sincerely thankful for the work you do in making teams stronger and bringing them together.

Stratagem’s Intervention

After discussion with the client, we agreed to use the Lumina Spark psychometric as the foundation for a whole team session.

  • Increased individuals’ self-awareness of the qualities they used in the team and the value they brought

  • Identified those qualities that they could develop to better connect with their colleagues and customers

  • Matched people’s key qualities/skills to particular projects or phases of projects

  • Agreed and shared development areas for each person to build their confidence, ensure smooth communication and maximise their ability to positively contribute to the team’s success

Outcome
  • Staff were more prepared to get involved in a wide range of projects thus releasing senior team members to prepare more thoroughly for contract pitches
  • Team members found it easier to give and receive feedback, thus minimising bottlenecks and ensuring clear expectations were set

  • A culture of ‘one team’ was evident, leading to spontaneous sharing of lessons learned and progress updates

  • The growth of the company was maintained and more valuable contracts were won
